Sulforaphane for Antioxidant Support

Preliminary evidence 7 studies

Research suggests that sulforaphane and related compounds that activate the Nrf2 cellular defense pathway may support antioxidant responses, with one study directly examining sulforaphane finding it reduced viral replication, lung damage, and inflammatory markers in cell culture and mouse models. The broader body of evidence here consists largely of preclinical laboratory and animal studies — no randomized controlled trials or clinical studies on sulforaphane for antioxidant support are represented — and several of the included studies examine other Nrf2-activating compounds such as CDDO-Me and PB125 rather than sulforaphane itself, making direct conclusions about sulforaphane specifically difficult to draw. Studies indicate that Nrf2 activation more generally can reduce oxidative stress, modulate inflammatory gene expression, and protect cells from damage, lending biological plausibility to sulforaphane's role in antioxidant support given its well-documented ability to trigger this same pathway. However, because the available evidence is predominantly cell- and animal-based, its relevance to antioxidant effects in humans remains uncertain, and readers should weigh these findings accordingly.
