Quercetin for Heart Health

Preliminary evidence 10 studies

Research suggests that quercetin may offer some cardiovascular benefits, though the direct evidence from the linked studies is limited and largely indirect. The strongest relevant finding comes from a single randomized controlled trial in which a multivitamin, multimineral, and phytonutrient supplement containing quercetin was associated with reductions in homocysteine and gamma-glutamyl transferase, both recognized markers of cardiovascular risk, in healthy adults over eight weeks — though the combination formula makes it impossible to attribute those effects to quercetin alone. Supporting in vitro research indicates that quercetin, when combined with magnesium, curcumin, and resveratrol, may synergistically reduce vascular calcification in cell culture models, a finding that is promising but not yet demonstrated in human studies. Overall, the body of evidence summarized here is preliminary, relying heavily on cell-based and non-human models, and does not yet establish a definitive causal role for quercetin specifically in improving heart health outcomes in people.
