Research suggests that Astragalus and its derived compounds — including polysaccharides, flavonoids, and nanoparticle preparations — may support various aspects of immune function, with evidence spanning stimulation of T cell activity, enhancement of mucosal immunity, modulation of gut microbiota, and potential engagement of anti-tumor immune responses. Studies indicate that the most consistent signals come from preclinical work in animal and cell models, with one systematic review and meta-analysis of nine randomized controlled trials in cervical cancer patients reporting improved immune markers and treatment response when Astragalus polysaccharide injections were added to standard chemoradiotherapy, though that review's authors cautioned that larger and higher-quality trials are needed before firm clinical conclusions can be drawn.
