Goat's Milk for Skin Health

Moderate evidence 12 studies

Research suggests that goat milk may offer potential benefits for skin health, though the evidence remains preliminary and largely theoretical. A 2025 narrative review proposed that bioactive compounds in goat milk — including antimicrobial peptides, lipids, and proteins — may exert anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and antioxidant effects relevant to conditions like eczema and psoriasis, and noted that genomic research could help guide the development of goat milk-based dermatological formulations. A large ongoing randomized controlled trial (the GIraFFE study, 2023) is currently investigating whether goat milk formula reduces the incidence of atopic dermatitis in infants compared to standard cow milk formula, building on a smaller earlier study that suggested a possible reduction but lacked sufficient statistical power to draw firm conclusions. Taken together, the available evidence is promising but limited — most of the supporting literature consists of reviews and mechanistic proposals rather than direct clinical trials, and researchers across multiple studies consistently call for more rigorous human studies before confident conclusions about goat milk's role in skin health can be reached.
