Eleuthero (Siberian Ginseng) for Immune Function

Preliminary evidence 12 studies

Research suggests that eleuthero (Eleutherococcus senticosus) may support various aspects of immune function, with the available evidence spanning animal studies in mice, poultry, and fish showing improvements in immune cell counts, antibody production, natural killer cell activity, and markers of innate immunity, as well as one small randomized crossover trial in humans focused primarily on lymphatic function rather than immune defense directly. Studies indicate that polysaccharides and other active compounds in eleuthero appear to modulate both innate and adaptive immune responses, with several animal studies reporting benefits under conditions of stress-induced or chemically induced immunosuppression. However, the body of evidence is heavily weighted toward preclinical animal models, many of which tested eleuthero in combination with other ingredients rather than as a standalone supplement, making it difficult to isolate its specific contribution or to draw firm conclusions about how these findings translate to humans. The overall direction of the research is generally supportive, but the absence of robust human clinical trials means that stronger claims about immune benefits in people remain premature.
