The available evidence includes a systematic review of seven clinical trials, multiple randomized controlled trials, and a 2025 RCT combining chamomile with L-theanine, with findings generally pointing in a supportive direction across primary dysmenorrhea, premenstrual symptoms, and endometriosis-related pain. Additional reviews of herbal and traditional medicine literature identify chamomile's anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic compounds as plausible mechanisms underlying these effects, and one animal study hints at possible relevance to hormonal conditions like PCOS, though human data on that application do not yet exist. Limitations worth noting include the relatively small number and size of individual trials, variation in study designs and chamomile preparations, and the authors' own calls for larger and longer studies before firm conclusions can be drawn.
