Boron for Cognitive Function

Preliminary evidence 8 studies

Research suggests that boron may play a role in supporting cognitive function and protecting against age-related cognitive decline, with a 2025 animal study finding that boric acid reduced oxidative stress markers and improved memory and learning in an accelerated aging rat model, and a 2024 review proposing potential neuroprotective relevance to Alzheimer's disease. The available evidence base consists primarily of narrative reviews and animal studies rather than controlled human trials, which substantially limits the conclusions that can be drawn. A 2008 systematic review found the evidence for boron and cognitive function to be conflicting, and several of the supporting studies are exploratory in nature, with authors consistently noting that the precise mechanisms by which boron might influence brain health remain poorly understood. Overall, while early findings are suggestive, rigorous human clinical trials are lacking, and the research at this stage does not yet establish a clear or well-characterized relationship between boron intake and cognitive outcomes in humans.
