Baicalein for Anti-Inflammatory

Moderate evidence 19 studies

Research suggests that baicalein possesses notable anti-inflammatory properties, with studies pointing to several molecular mechanisms including inhibition of key inflammatory signaling pathways such as NF-κB, MAPK, and JAK-STAT, as well as suppression of pro-inflammatory cytokines like TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, and IL-8. The available evidence comes primarily from in vitro cell studies, animal models, and narrative reviews, with research exploring these anti-inflammatory effects across a range of conditions including endometriosis, COPD, kidney fibrosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, and neurodegenerative diseases, generally finding supportive results. Studies indicate that baicalein may also activate the Nrf2 protective pathway, contributing to antioxidant effects that work alongside its anti-inflammatory actions, and some research has examined its potential in combination approaches such as wound-healing patches and herbal formulas. However, the body of evidence remains largely preclinical, with human clinical trials notably absent from the current literature, meaning conclusions about its effectiveness and safety in humans cannot yet be drawn.
